Fisher Morrison is in business to make things it is proud of. Since establishing in 2019 we have built up a locally trained, skilled team of makers and a network of trusted suppliers for our raw materials. As a young company we are driven by enthusiasm and ideas, but we are rooted in decades of design experience and the desire to create furniture and interiors that are both beautiful and functional.
Graham Morrison, a founding partner of Architects Allies and Morrison, and designer maker Rupert Fisher, share a passion for careful, well made, and understated design and for the beauty of surfaces and materials. They joined forces to continue the process of designing things innovatively and well, and to be closer to the process of making. Designing and making is what Fisher Morrison does.
The workshop is based in a converted dairy barn in the heart of the South Downs National Park. It is a spacious, modern, and well-equipped facility capable of realising the varied scale and detail of its projects. Traditional hand skills are at the heart of the business with a deep-rooted belief in the value of craft and craftsmanship. Everything we make is designed to last, with a focus on quality of materials and exquisite joinery.
Rupert has a passion for the design and the making of furniture. He sees beauty in detail and surface, and has an acute understanding of how things are best made and assembled. Having trained as a furniture designer he went on to become a director at Allies and Morrison architects where he ran their specialist workshop. Though that task was primarily concerned with the management and making of prototypes and architectural models, it included many commissions for bespoke furniture for individuals and for the practice's architectural projects. For Rupert, Fisher Morrison is what he has been working towards - the careful making of well-designed furniture and interiors.
Graham has always been interested in the quality of design and the beauty of the detail of the things that surround us in our homes. Though the architectural practice he co founded - Allies and Morrison - now employs over 300 and works all over the world, it was founded on a fundamental care for how well and how beautifully its buildings were made. He was awarded an OBE for services to architecture in 2016. Fisher Morrison is a natural extension of his thinking into the making of things and, for Graham, so much more than just their design. His compelling interest is combining innovative but practical answers to problems with designs that are beautifully made.
